May 14, 2019 - The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) and Nutrition departments at BCSD hosted hosted a 'Now We're Cooking' Family Resource Fair at McKinley Elementary. During the resource fair, attendees had the opportunity to gather information from several community partner booths such as the Bakersfield Police Department, Kern Family Health Care, the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, and several others.
Attendees were also able to partake in several different contests including a salsa tasting contest, a watermelon eating contest,a pie eating contest and a talent show. They were also treated to tours of the brand new McKinley Garden by students who have been participating in the school's Extended Learning Agricultural Academy.
'Now We're Cooking' is a free monthly cooking class that engages parents and students in a program to help educate families on how to make long lasting, healthier life style decisions. The class focuses on recipes that help families experience a variety of nutritional and culturally diverse foods, while promoting positive interaction and communication between family members.
